How To Replace A File

Understand how to replace a file within your media library.

Replace A File Tutorial

Below is a sequence of screenshots on how to “Replace” a file within your Media Library. Replacing a file within the media library is a way to update the file within all courses it is being used in without a need to publish a new version of the course.

Under Content > Media Library, you will click the action buttons that correspond with the file you wish to replace. Then, click “Replace.” As seen below:

When you click “Replace,” it will redirect you to the Replace asset screen. Here, you will choose from two options. Option 1 would essentially continue your analytics for that file (This is best used for small changes). Option 2 will be for more drastic changes that you want to reset your analytics for that file altogether. Under these options, you will click “Upload replacement.” See below:

From there, your computer will bring up your files. This is where you will search your computer for the replacement file. Once found, select the file and click “Open.”

When you click “Open,” the file will begin to upload as seen below:

Once the file is fully uploaded, you will see the file populate as seen below:

Now, go back to your media library.

Once you are in your media library, the file will be there and “processing.” This may take a couple of minutes, and your previous file will NOT be replaced until the status says “Ready.” We recommend refreshing the media library after a few minutes, depending on the size of the file.

Below is a fully ready file, and the previous file is successfully replaced.

We want to stress that replacing a file within the media library is a way to update the file within all courses it is being used in without a need to publish a new version of the course.
